Artist
Statement
One could
say that I have been painting all my life on the inside and I
eventually reached a point where it became essential for me to
align with my true self and proclaim my voice as an artist. Once
I devoted my entire life to art, I was essentially reborn into a
new person. I think and see differently than before.
So who am I? I am a reaper of good things; exploring and
creating. I have a place in my living heart for all things. I am
very methodical and love the illogical. I thrive on intelligence
and love a challenge.
A
fundamental aspect of my artist philosophy is to use my talent
to create something new or different. Having a good
understanding of art history and no interest on replicating the
past I now journey down a road to something undiscovered. This
journey has been one of learning and practicing the art of the
past to get to a new place in the present: modern art and I
don’t mean the modern art of today, but of modern art in the
future.
When I
begin a work of art whether it be clay or paint on a canvas or
whatever medium is handy I go with my inner spirit as it guides
me along making changes as I go. I am so engulfed in what I do
that the chaotic world around me seems to disappear. Finishing
the work of art is sometimes more difficult deciding what to do
in the first place, but there comes a time when I feel a
completeness in the work of art. This completeness is never
definite. I may go back later and find something else that feels
undone and continue working until I feel that completeness
again.
From the
first decision of what to do to the intense work involve right
down to the completeness fills a need for me. I thrive on
coming up with new ideas and the challenge of creating what is
in my minds eye and then the sense of accomplishment warms my
heart and I can relax and enjoy the beauty of the work. I can
visualize the processes I used and how they relate and they
usually spark a new idea which leads me on another journey with
the next work of art.
I create art
because I believe there are moments that can be found throughout
any given day that bring sanctuary. It is in finding these
moments amidst the stress of the everyday life that bring joy to
my heart. For me a beautiful piece of artwork or the smile on
my son’s face make life more livable.
Art is very
personal and every person has their own distinctive opinion
created by different influences in their own life. I hope
someone can find one of my works of art as a moment of intrigue,
a link to the past or maybe the forgotten, a feeling of warmth,
love or even sorrow. Whatever the connection is I hope that
moment is as memorable to them as it was for me.
