My
reasons for running are simple, and can be summarized in four main points. They
are rooted in an appreciation of the quality of life enjoyed by all of us as
residents of Central Oregon, and a desire to preserve that quality of life.
Specifically I aim:
•
To strike a balance between the need to preserve our natural scenic beauty,
while promoting economic prosperity.
•
To maximize our freedoms, while promoting individual responsibility.
•
To work with the other County Commissioners manage the County’s resources (our
resources), in a manner that is fiscally prudent and responsible.
•
And to contribute to the creation of a long term strategic plan that will guide
the County’s progress as it continues to grow in a manner that is achievable
given County resources.
County
Commissioners are frequently faced with the task of hearing many different
points of view, reconciling those views, and developing a consensus among the
many stakeholders involved in County decisions. I believe my background and
values uniquely qualify me for this task. Since my beginnings in Yamhill county
as a worker on farms and ranches, I have:
•
Served in the USAF where I finished with honors,
•
Worked my way through college, and earned a Bachelor’s degree in engineering,
again with honors.
•
And, for the past eight years have worked for a engineering
firm where I have risen to the level of project manager in charge of large,
multi-million dollar projects.
This
background has helped instill a number of values that are important to serving
in a manner that benefits all. The key values that guide me include:
•
The ability to listen as well as share knowledge.
•
The ability to make tough decisions and to stand by those decisions.
•
Self-motivation and the willingness to put in the effort necessary to achieve
the task at hand.
•
The willingness to sacrifice popularity in favor of doing the right thing.
•
The ability to work with people from a multitude of ethnic, religious, and
philosophical backgrounds to achieve common goals.
These
are values that have served me in the world of business, and have earned me a
reputation and several letters of commendation from clients for being
supportive, knowledgeable, dedicated, dependable, detailed, and for being a
team player, and for being able to deliver projects on schedule and under
budget. If selected to serve as County Commissioner, I will bring these values
to you (my client) to conduct your business in an open, transparent, and
accountable manner.
Thank
you for your time and consideration.
