I was
helping to run a supply cache that was giving essential
supplies to the federal workers organizing the
operation. The
slides in this series show our operations in Baldwin
County, near Mobile, Alabama where we stayed
.
In
September 2004, shortly after Hurricane Ivan scored a
direct hit on the Alabama and Florida coast I joined
a recovery team headed by FEMA that operated a base camp
in Daphne, Alabama in Baldwin County, that supported the
debris removal crews and crews running distribution
centers giving out essential supplies to the people
stricken by Hurricane Ivan.
Here's our supply setup. Our
little shop at the Daphne Public Works Department
warehouse. We had lots of water over to the left which
was being held in reserve for who knows what down the
road.

There were a lot of trees blown
over and the power companies from all around were busy
trying to get power back on.

More cleanup happening in this
little town. And they are a ways off the
coast.

This house got hit
hard.

This garage got hit. At least
they can still live in the house

Just a block off the ocean the
storm surge washed up sand and
debris.

This is what happens when the
storm surge sweeps through town.

The streets were filled with
sand and they were dumping all the extra sand back on the
beaches to hold back the ocean.

The Best Western under 2 feet of
sand.

Thee pool of the Best Western
which got filled with the sand when the storm surge
washed through.

Traffic lights knocked down in
the winds .

Our team helped to run a
distribution centers throghout the county which handed
out water, ice and Meals Ready to Eat (MRE's) to the
people.
