Capital Reef is a geological wonderland. It has some beautiful scenery and some amazing geology. It might be my favorite place of the trip. Here's some photos............

It was over a backcountry road over Thousand Lakes Mountain on the Fish Lake National Forest. |

Cathedral Valley
overlook on the north side of the
park.

I went for a
hike at the north desert overlook. Not much of a trail
but the scenery was great.

These were some
nice rock formationas along the
hike.

This alkaline
looking stream was barely flowing in the
streambed.

Jailhouse Rock from
the Desert Overlook trail.

This plug of gypsum
was near the Cathedral Rocks on the north end of the
park.

This dome is in the
central part of the park on the main
road.

The back side of
Capital Dome from the Hickman Bridge Trail. A rock
waterbar.

The trail ends at
this nice natural bridge. It is a nice trail through the
desert slickrock landscape.

This is the Narrows
along the Grand Wash. It wasn't as narrow
as a I was hoping but it was an interesting hike
anyway.

There is some great
geology along the east side of the reef along the edge of
the layers.

This canyon narrows
down to a narrow slot at the surprise part of the
canyon.

There is an awesome
overlook from the ridge of the reef.

Move on to the next gallery.
