Mt. Thielsen near Diamond Lake and Crater Lake in Oregon is an impressive spire that looks challenging. The climb up Thielsen itself is not all that difficult though. The rock is good and the final scramble up the summit pinacle is over good solid handholds. I have climbed climbed this peak twice after camping out to the north and to the south of the mountain, but it could be done in a day easily with an early start. |

The
climber trail just above the Pacific Crest Trail follows the
ridge up with nice views.

The
climber trail gets off the ridge and onto the right shoulder
of the ridge. Climbing steadily.

Looking
back over your shoulder you have nice views of Diamond Lake
and Mt. Bailey.

The
climbing is not all that difficult from here on up but you
just need to be careful.

The
summit rocks of Thielsen. There's
not a whole lot of room up here to sit down and be
comfortable. Lots of big rocks.
