Mr. Clyde Moore graduated from Oklahoma State University in 1949 with a music degree. He went on to earn his Masters degree in 1971 from the University of Oregon. Mr. Moore’s first teaching job was in Roseburg, Oregon where he directed the Municipal Band and the Choral Society. He also played in the Roseburg Symphony. He came to Redmond in 1962 where he directed the Elementary and High School bands.

Mr. Moore dedicated 28 years to the Redmond School District music program. His bands appeared in three Rose Festival Parades. During his years of teaching, his bands took numerous trips to destinations like Hawaii, Mexico and Canada. Two of the more notable trips were in 1962 to the Seattle World’s Fair, and in 1976 the Redmond High School Band represented Oregon at the Bicentennial celebration in Philadelphia and Washington, DC.

Mr. Moore married a wonderful woman named Gemma in 1944. She is a true inspiration. Together they had four daughters and one son and nine grandchildren.

His accomplishments were many. Moore reviewed music for the Oregon Music Educators Journal, participated in OEA and the Deschutes County Education Association. He was the president of the Redmond Community Concert Association (1980-1990), Redmond Community Concert Board member (1987-1990), High Desert Museum Volunteer, and also served four years in the U.S. Navy.

On November 9, 2006, a dedication ceremony took place at the Redmond High School. The Redmond School Board recognized Mr. Moore’s achievements in the Redmond School District, and approved the naming of this facility after him. Mr. and Mrs. Moore, as well as their entire family and many Redmond residents were in attendance. Today the facility proudly stands as the Clyde Moore Auditorium.

Clyde W. Moore passed away March 18, 2007. He was 85. Through Moore Music, Inc. (a 501(c)3 non profit organization) we will continue his legacy of musical excellence for years to come.
