Will Rogers Top Ten

The country has never been so divided.
Too much screaming.  Too many lines drawn in the sand.  Too many rigid ideologues.
Mebbe.
I think most of us agree with each other more than we disagree.  We have more commonalities than differences.  We are alike more than we are opposite.
I do not rest this belief on polls and studies because, like most of us, I do not have the time to do the research.  Most of us wish we had more time and money but, if truth be told, we already waste a lot of what we have of both.
Let’s see if we can agree.
Most of us are average in appearance.  Abraham Lincoln said, “God must have loved the plain people.  He made so many of them.”  Or if you prefer the scientific approach, “plain” is obviously the dominant gene.
Most of us do believe in science.  Most of us have benefited from scientific advances that have been made in our lifetimes.
But, most of us have a faith.  Most of us do not know a lot about the faith of others.  Most of us are comfortable being around those with different faiths or those with no faiths at all.
Most of us believe our faith (or lack thereof) is the right one.
Most of us have doubts we are right.
Most of us should eat less and exercise more.
Most of us don’t.
Most of us are able-bodied except for a few minor aches and pains that we will talk about if asked.
Most of us would prefer not to ask.
Most of us ask anyway because most of us are polite.
Yes, most of us are polite.  So when one of us is not, it really throws most of us for a loop.  Most of us do not know how to react when we are confronted with the uncivil.
Most of us worry about money.  Most of us know more and more of us have more month than money and we worry it might happen to us.
Most of us do not have a plan for that.
Most of us wish our jobs were easier and paid more.  Most of us have a job but most of us worry about losing it.
Most of us are not in the military or law enforcement.  Most of us support those who are.
Most of us have an opinion.  Most of us believe we are right.  Most of us look at the opposition and think, “If only you would agree with me, we could both be right!”
Some of us say that out loud.  Most of us do not.
Most of us need more sleep.
Most of us say we would rather curl up with a good book than watch that trash on television.
Most of us do not have a good book and watch television anyway.
Most of us are not wealthy.  Most of us are of the opinion the extremely rich did not become that way through hard work.
Most of us wish all four Beatles were still alive and together and recording new music.
Most of us want fairness.
Most of us want to help.
Most of us wish we knew more.
Most of us try really hard.
Most of us stand when the flag goes by, vote when they can, aren’t quite sure about the lyrics to the National Anthem, obey traffic signals and pay their taxes.
Most of us love our country.
Most of us love being outside unless it’s too cold or too hot or too windy or there are too many bugs.
Most of us don’t litter, want clean water, like dolphins, don’t start forest fires and give a hoot.
Most of us miss Johnny Carson.
Most of us wish fattening foods didn’t taste so good.
Most of us do our job, do the math, do the work, do something, do the right thing and most of us do our part.
Most of us are nice and sometimes, most of us forget that.
