Big Meadows Horse Camp
Detroit Ranger District, 503-854-3366.
This camp is in the Detroit Ranger District and is also in the care of Hoodoo Bowl. Though it suffered considerable damage in the winter of 95/96, it is now mostly repaired and in good shape.
Directions: Follow Highway 22 southeast from the Detroit Ranger Station for 28.2 miles. Turn left on Hwy 2267; at one mile, turn left again onto Road 2257. The camping area is 0.5 miles ahead on the left.
Facilities: Potable water is available at a well and a spring fed trough for horses. A restroom is situated in the center of the camp and there is a ramp to assist physically challenged riders mount a horse. Map

Box Canyon
Blue River District, 541-822-3317.
Directions: Travel from Eugene on Hwy 126 (McKenzie Hwy) past Blue river to the Cougar Reservoir cutoff; turn right and go past the reservoir; follow signs (placed on right hand side) to Box Canyon (approximately 33 miles from McKenzie Hwy). Auferheide Drive.
Facilities:13 units, 16 corrals, tables, fire rings, community meeting area, two vault-type toilets, water at creek. Many trails around the Roaring River area; approximately eight miles to the Pacific Crest trail. Close by is historic Landis cabin and Box canyon Guard Station. Map

Cresent Mountain
Sweet Home Ranger District, 541-367-5168.
Directions: >From Sweet Home travel east on Hwy 20 approximately 41 miles to Lava Lake Road #2067. Turn left and follow one mile to Road #267-508. Turn left and follow 0.7 mile to trail parking.
Facilities: 2 hitching posts and a barrier-free loading ramp with ample parking. No developed camping at this site. This area accesses 11.5 miles of trail to the South Pyramid trailhead.

Gordon Lakes Trailhead
Sweet Home Ranger District, 541-367-5168.
Directions: From Sweet Home travel east on St Hwy 20 approximateiy 17 miles to FS Rd 2032 (Gordon Road) . Turn right and follow 4 miles to FS Rd 2032-325. Turn left and follow to trailhead. Note: Steep road grade and usually rough.
Facilities:6 hitching posts and one unloading ramp. No developed camping facilities. Map

Gordan Peak Trailhead
Sweet Home Ranger District, 541-367-5168.
Directions: Travel southeast from Detroit 19.2 miles on Hwy 22 to Straight Creek Forest Service Road No.11. Turn right on Road No.11 and follow it about 8 1/2 miles. Pass just over the summit and turn left on Road No.1152. Follow No.1152 for approximately one mile to trailhead.
This is the north end of South Pyramid Trail through South Santiam Wilderness. Note: Road No. 11 is closed 6 miles from Hwy 22, and is also closed from Quartzville area and there is no way to get to the trail at this date - July 20 1996. Call the Sweet Home Ranger District for current conditions.

Harralson Horse Camp
Oakridge Ranger Station, 541-782-2291.
Directions: From Oakridge Ranger Station go east on Hwy 58 for 27 miles to Waldo Lake Road 5897. Follow the signs toward Waldo Lake Campground. Haaralson Horse Camp signs are located shortly before reaching North Waldo Campground.
Facilities: 5 units, pit toilets, fire rings, hitching racks, and an unloading ramp. No water at camp; however potable water may be obtained at North Waldo Campground one half mile away. Horses may be watered at the lake. Map

Seven Mile Camp and Trailhead
Sweet Home Ranger District, 541-367-5168.
Directions:From Sweet Home travel up Highway 20 approximately 30 miles, go 1/2 mile beyond the 59 mile post, or 2 1/2 miles east of the Sheep Creek Bridge and turn right on Road 024. Ride on spur road less than one mile to trailhead of Old Santiam Wagon Road with approximately 18.5 miles of trails; to Mountain House or Fish Lake.
Facilities: This site offers riders 4 dispersed campsites, 3 two horse corrals (at this time) plus an overflow area for camping and extra vehicles. Horse water at a spring fed trough about 1/4 mile east of camp. No toilets; haul manure to pile on the lower gravel pile.


South Pyramid Creek Trailhead

Directions: From Sweet Home travel approximately 23 miles up Hwy 20 and turn left on Road #2047 for approximately 13.5 miles and turn left on Road #2047-747. Continue one mile to the end of the road.
Facilities: This site offers 4 dispersed camping sites for horse riders and 18 miles of trail into Middle Santiam Wilderness. No developed campsites at trailhead. Note: This road was destroyed in the winter of 1996 flood. Call the Sweet Home Ranger District for current conditions.
