Dress for success, make a good impression in the show ring, you're being judged on you're appearance.  First master your performance by having your horse schooled and perfectly groomed.  A well planned wardrobe will give you extra confidence every time you enter the show ring.  Don't overlook the finishing touches by coordinating your attire with your horses tack for a professional look.  It's hard to justify buying expensive show clothes for young riders that are quickly growing.  You don't have to spend a fortune to get a custom look at Pony Expressions. Most women riders have a different outfit for each day they compete.  Pony Expressions makes that possible without breaking the bank.

What Does a Show Girl Need to Compete?

Jackets or Blazers- For showmanship or halter.  Hip length or shorter can also be worn for riding.

Vests- A well fitting vest with interesting or flashy designs over a slinky are a perfect choice.

Blouses- Stretch slinkies are perfect layered under any vest or jacket and give a more formal look.  Heavier fabric slinkies with pretty patterns and designs are great by themselves.  Cotton blouses are more casual and are perfect for classes like trail and ranch horse events.

Pants and Jeans- Poly stretch show pants are good for halter but nice colored jeans do the trick as well.  Coordinate them with your jackets and vests for a sharp clean look.  Don't forget to tuck under the extra length needed for riding.  Bunched up jeans don't look tidy.

Accessories- Gloves and an assortment of jewelry add  the finishing touch to your attire as you enter the winning circle.

HELPFUL HINTS

Trends come and go but classic style and good taste lasts forever.  Color creates a look that is sharp from a distance.  A judge is viewing you from a distance of about 75 feet.  He or she will see color and coordination of the horse and rider.  Black is always a safe color but unless paired up with something bright and flashy, you will blend in with all the other riders.  Count on several other riders wearing black, so make it pop with color so yours is the most outstanding in the arena.

Bright colors are perfect for youth riders, although a beginner may choose to wear something  toned down until  riding experience is gained.  Fancy fabrics that show up from a distance are always a winner.  Flashy trims of sequins, rhinestones or embroidery add flair, bold colors and shiny textures are also winning choices that get you noticed.   Accessorize with jewelry and color coordinated saddle blankets for a perfectly polished look.

Blues, purple, teal and red are good color choices for bays, blacks and gray horses.  Sorrels and chestnuts look great with sand, browns, pale blues and greens.  Buckskins and palominos look great with any color.  Black is also universal.  Don't hesitate to wear a color that you love and feel good in, you will glow in the ring if your happy with your look.  You need to look like a winner to become one.  Remember: it's fun to look like a million bucks but know the look didn't cost that.
