Web Folder feature for BendBroadband using Windows XP
Here are some brief "How-To" step-by-step instructions on how to create a "web folder" (local shortcut) that will appear on your desktop and instantly provide you with file transfer and publishing capabilities online.

Note:

  • You must have FrontPage Support installed for your BendBroadband website in order for the following instructions to work.
  • We have only tested this feature using Windows XP. We do not recommend using the "web folder" feature with other operating systems.
  • We cannot provide technical support if you are unable to make this optional feature work correctly. This "how-to" instructional document is for the purpose of providing helpful information and is not a guarantee of functionality or compatibility.

BendBroadband - "Web Folder" Setup Instructions:

  1. Open Internet Explorer (Version 6.0 - or later) and choose the "Open..." menu option in the "File" pull-down menu.
  2. In the "Open" window's text entry field, type in the URL (web address) of a BendBroadband website that you have already set up and click the checkbox marked "Open as Web Folder". (Example: "http://home.bendbroadband.com/your_site")
Note: you must have FrontPage Support activated or this feature will not work.
  3. At the username/password prompt, enter your BendBroadband username and password.
  4. Once you have successfully passed the login prompt, you will see a window with a list of files from your BendBroadband website directory.
  5. To place a shortcut on the desktop, click the "Web Folders" option listed under the menu titled "Other Places" that should be shown on the left panel of the open window.
  6. Once you see the particular web folder just created listed in the "Web Folders" listing, drag it to your desktop and Windows XP will create a shortcut to this online web folder.
  7. Now you can drag and drop files into your website, edit or delete files, and otherwise use this local shortcut for your remote BendBroadband website administration.

Special instructions, in the event you receive the following errors when trying the above procedure:

In some cases, we've discovered that trying to enter the username and password as described above does not work properly. Some users find that the "username/password" prompt keeps repeating in an endless loop and seemingly goes nowhere no matter how many times the correct information is entered.

Here is how one might be able to bypass this unusual occurance:

  1. After trying repeatedly to enter your correct username and password at the "Web Folder" login prompt, click the "Cancel" button.
  2. If all goes well, the "web folder" should open and ask you one last time for the username and password. Re-enter your username and password into this prompt.
  3. You should see the window with a list of files and folders open on your screen as described in the set of instructions above. Continue normally per the instructions listed above for adding a shortcut to your desktop.
  4. Note, this is only a work-around that we have noticed and can neither explain nor support, so use this information at your own risk or benefit.
