The Asia Times is an excellent on-line site for some of the most authoritative and informed commentaries and opinion related to the countries that comprise the continent and the Middle East. The Arab Net, Al Jazeera and Al Bawaba web sites are sources of news and information about countries with Arab and Muslim populations in the Middle East and North Africa. Westerners should recognize that the press in the Middle East should be regarded with skepticism and much of it is controlled by regional rulers. The Middle East Research and Information Project (MERIP) is a non-profit, non-governmental organization based in Washington, DC. A completely independent organization, it has no links to any religious, educational or political organizations in the US or elsewhere. MERIP publishes the Middle East Report. Robert Fisk is a featured columnist for The Independent (UK) and one of the world's most respected journalists. His work focuses mainly on the Middle East. Forward is a Jewish weekly published in New York that offers an independent voice on Middle East and other issues. The Arab American Institute is "is a non-profit organization committed to the civic and political empowerment of Americans of Arab descent." The web site is a good source of information related to current events from an Arab-American perspective.
