Progressive Media

The Nation is one of the oldest progressive magazines in the United States with a long and proud history of defending civil and human rights. TomDispatch.com is a project of The Nation Institute.

The Progressive is another magazine with a proud history in support of progressive ideas.

The American Prospect publishes some of the leading intellectuals supporting moderate and progressive issues.  As the leading source for easily searched and sorted progressive policy information, Moving Ideas (a project of the American Prospect) provides the background information for citizen activism via the Internet.

The web sites for the magazines listed above have excellent search facilities to research articles that have been published in the past.

The Axis of Logic E-zine publishes original essays submitted to the editors.  The site also maintains collections of articles on a wide variety of topics.

CommonDreams.org is one of the leading progressive web sites with a collection of articles from other sources presented every business day.  This site also has extensive lists of links to other progressive and independent web site.

Democracy's Edge is a private, non-profit Oregon foundation seeking to inspire Oregonians and other Americans to become--and continue to be--active participants in our government.

Air America Radio is the progressive radio voice to counteract Limbaugh and his ilk.  Nearest station to Central Oregon in KPOJ 620 AM, but streaming audio is available through the preceding link.

The Green Institute is a progressive organization acting independently of so-called progressives in the Democratic party.

The Independent Progressive Politics Network is composed of organizations and individuals committed to the achievement of a national, non-sectarian, independent progressive political party, or an alliance of such parties, as an alternative to the corporate-controlled, Democratic/Republican system. Organizations that join the IPPN maintain their independence while coordinating with other IPPN groups to the extent they find appropriate.

The Information Clearing House has the sub-title "News You Won't Find On CNN or FOX Mooooos."  It is an excellent resource for news and analysis from around the world.

Leadership for a Changing World seeks to recognize, strengthen and support leaders and to highlight the importance of community leadership in improving people’s lives. The program seeks to confirm that resourceful leaders are bringing about positive change in virtually every community.

Media for Democracy 2004 is a non-partisan citizens' initiative to monitor mainstream news coverage of the 2004 elections and advocate standards of reporting that are more democratic and issues-oriented.

Dissent Magazine is another magazine (print and on-line) with strong leftist credentials.

Z Communications - The Spirit of Resistance Lives publishes critical articles (national and international) on politics, culture, economics and social life in a variety of formats.

The Daily Howler, is Bob Somerby's mission to daily challenge the nation's most respected newspapers

Essential Information is a Ralph Nader web site encouraging activism.

Indymedia is a grassroots network committed to using media production and distribution as tools for promoting social and economic justice.

Mother Jones is one of the leading progressive magazines noted for its revealing investigative reporting.

The Nader Page has biographical and other information about Ralph Nader including articles written by him.

The New Democracy Project (NDP) is a New York City-based national/urban affairs public policy institute.  Through innovative and well-publicized research, NDP seeks to provide policymakers and the public with thoughtful solutions that promote democratic participation, economic fairness and social justice.

The Progressive Policy Institute "is a catalyst for political change. Its mission is to modernize progressive politics and government for the Information Age. The Third Coast Activist Resource Center was created to help people in the Austin (TX) area in their efforts at sustainable organizing. The Village Voice is one of the great publications that come out of New York publishing articles its uptown newspaper, New York Times, doesn't but should print.
