Opponents of a Minimum Wage

This information was provided by the Oregon AFL-CIO

Minimum Wage Opponents Raise Maximum Money for a Late Blitz to Defeat Measure 25...

The committee to defeat Measure 25 (the minimum wage increase) reported today that it raised $254,750 during the past two weeks and spent most of it on late-hitting mail, TV and radio.

But the committee missed a deadline for reporting the bulk of that money on Monday and faces a fine of $10,000 from the Secretary of State for late reporting.

The biggest donors attempting to defeat the raise for Oregon's lowest-paid workers and their most recent contributions include:

Oregon Grocery Industry Association PAC (Wilsonville):  $85,000*;

Oregon Restaurant Association (Wilsonville):  $76,000;

Oregon Association of Nurserymen (Wilsonville): $27,500;

Wendy’s International (Dublin, Ohio): $15,000;

Baja Oregon (Beaverton): $10,000;

Jubitz Corporation (Portland): $5,000;

Oregon Food PAC (Portland): $5,000;

Oregon Lodging Association (Portland): $5,000;

Outback Steakhouse (Tampa, Florida): $5,000;

Davidson’s Casual Dining (Tigard): $2,500;

Elmer’s Restaurants (Portland): $2,500; and,

Keith Morrow (Sun River): $2,500.

*This PAC’s most recent contributions came from Roth’s, Safeway and WinCo stores.

"Many of these contributors are large, highly-profitable national corporations," notes State Rep. Diane Rosenbaum, who is a chief petitioner for Measure 25.  "They ought to be sharing some of their profits with their workers by keeping their pay up with the cost of living rather than fighting this modest increase in the minimum wage."
