The American Library Association is very concerned with requirements of the Patriot Act and is taking action to protect the interests of the reading public. The Cato Institute is one of the better known libertarian organizations. While it takes many stands that progressives disagree with, the institute's position on civil rights is frequently in agreement with that of progressives. The Center for Constitutional Rights (CCR) is a non-profit legal and educational organization dedicated to protecting and advancing the rights guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The Center for Democracy and Technology "works to promote democratic values and constitutional liberties in the digital age. With expertise in law, technology, and policy, CDT seeks practical solutions to enhance free expression and privacy in global communications technologies. CDT is dedicated to building consensus among all parties interested in the future of the Internet and other new communications media." This web site has a special section on the Patriot Act CivilRights.org is a collaboration of the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights and the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights Education Fund. Its mission: to serve as the site of record for relevant and up-to-the minute civil rights news and information. The Constitution Society is a private non-profit organization dedicated to research and public education on the principles of constitutional republican government. It publishes documentation, engages in litigation, and organizes local citizens groups to work for reform. Its web site aims to eventually provide almost everything one needs to accurately decide what is and is not constitutional in most situations, and what applicable constitutions require one to do. It is for constitutional decision support. The web site has an excellent collection of links to activist web sites covering the entire political spectrum from left to right. The Electronic Privacy Information Center "is a public interest research center in Washington, D.C. It was established in 1994 to focus public attention on emerging civil liberties issues and to protect privacy, the First Amendment, and constitutional values." Elaine Cassel publishes Civil Liberties Watch. It is also part of the Twin Cities Babelogues Community Explore Freedom is an excellent site for source documents and links to other sites related to civil liberties.
